We needed dinner before choir practice (eat full full then have strength to sing haha!), so decided to check out Tonkin Vietnamese Noodles Bar which is located at the basement of Orchard Central. This casual dining establishment is the latest addition to the existing Tonkin outlets at 100AM and Clifford Centre.
Its menu offers Vietnamese favorites which most of us are familiar with, such as Spring Rolls, Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) and Pho (rice noodles soup).
Safe choices, but nevertheless pleasing in a simple way. The Fresh Spring Rolls ($6.90 for 2 pcs) were bursting with a good amount of prawns, vegetables and rice vermicelli wrapped in fresh rice paper, and provided a refreshing bite to start the meal.
Banh Mi Pate Pork Belly with Vegetable ($6.90) would be suitable if you're looking for a quick and fuss-free tummy filler. We wished there were more meat slices though.
The Beef Combination Noodle Soup ($9.90) was light and healthy tasting. Its broth could do with more oomph in flavor, but I take heart that at least it doesn't have those artificial sugar or msg-laden sweetness.
Tonkin may not serve up the most delicious pho nor the most exciting food, but is an affordable and convenient choice especially if you're craving for a bowl of warm noodle soup. Go if you happen to be in the Orchard Central vicinity.
