Plain Vanilla is now in town! Right smacked in the heart of Orchard Road!
Look not for the bakery itself, but a fashion retailer named In Good Company in basement one of Ion Orchard (right next to the escalator). Even as we walked through the boutique storefront, my friend is still asking, "here have café meh?"
Past the rows of wardrobe essentials and stylish staples for women, and you'd find yourself at a corner space that livens the nook with its bright orange wall and..... a display counter with lots and lots of freshly-baked goods!
Look at the piping of those cupcakes. Unmistakably it's by folks from Plain Vanilla.
The collaboration between In Good Company and Plain Vanilla serves to bring much delight. The girlfriends can shop, the boyfriends can wait, have a coffee, then pay (at both cashiers)! Lol!
But seriously, who doesn't appreciate a café that offers the convenience of location. Though the cozy spot houses only two communal tables which can just sit a total of 20pax at any one time, we really enjoyed the chillax ambience that it exudes.
Perfect for a quick bite after getting around town, and also for those who simply thirst for some beverages or a caffeine perk-me-up.
The array of baked products looked utmost enticing. All are made in small batches with no artificial ingredients or preservatives. Only quality ingredients such as French butter and pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla are used.
What customers can expect are Tea Cakes, Brownies, Sweet Tarts as well as Savory Tarts, and of course the bestselling Cupcakes.
When I tried the cupcakes the previous time, it wasn't too impressive and I thought they were average at best. However this time round, the experience was quite different.

The Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting was adequately moist, and has a pleasing flavor that is well-balanced and not overly sweet. Other mainstay flavors include Strawberry White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate Banana and Cookies & Cream. My favorite remains to be Carrot.
I did noticed that prices of the cupcakes have increased a little. It's now at $3.90 each or $22 for every six pieces. Size-wise, seems like it's the same. Not complaining though, I thought we as consumers also need to understand the rising operating costs.
A new menu of Breakfast Items and Grilled Sandwiches has been introduced at this café, but do note that it's available till 4pm only.
The selection is not extensive, but good enough if we need something more substantial and savory such as Proscuitto & Truffle Butter Ciabatta ($18), Tuna & Olive Tapenade Ciabatta ($16) or Watercress Egg Aioli Brioche ($16).
It's GOOD to be here for a cupcake or two, even BETTER with a cup of coffee brewed from Allpress' Browns Mill Organic Blend of medium roast beans from Sumatra, Mexico and Papua New Guinea.
But I say, it's BEST to be In Good Company, with great company.
