G Bar & Grill, Charcoal-Grilled Delights At Apex @ Henderson Road
We took some time out recently and went all the way to Apex @ Henderson (the building is situated at the intersection between Jalan Bukit Merah and Henderson Road) to visit G Bar & Grill.
The casual eatery prides itself on serving charcoal-grilled meats that's churned from the compact yet powerful Bertha Charcoal Oven, one of the most coveted ovens in the world which is used in Michelin-starred restaurants, and by world-renowned celebrity chefs.
Couple that with wok-hei infused dishes that's fired using high-grade wok, we were totally sold on the menu.
A dish that embodies the "best of both worlds" elements from the Bertha Charcoal Oven and high-grade wok would be G Bar & Grill's Special Mun Fun ($26.50).
Okay I must admit its price does look intimidating, being more than triple of what we would normally pay at a zhi char stall. But, this is no ordinary mun fun.
Just look at those big Bertha oven-grilled prawns and squid! Evenly-cooked with a nice char, and succulent in every bite. The fried rice had a gentle wok hei aroma, and came with generous portion of pork and sausage. Accompanying sauce was savory and tie everything together beautifully.
This elevated take on a familar dish is worth both the money and calories.
I would describe G Bar & Grill's menu as a crowd-pleaser with East, West, and fusion favourites.
Expect classic mains like Entrecote Steak & Fries ($15/100g, min 250g), Oven Roasted Chicken ($23.50), and Seafood Hor Fun ($15.50), to Asian-inspired dishes such as Chilli Crab Pasta ($15.50). The Unagi Pizza ($19.90) seems quite popular with every other table tucking into one.
Rice bowl meal is also offered during lunch at only $14.90 which includes Unagi Don, and Spicy Sambal Prawn & Petai as mains options.
Our Norwegian Salmon bowl came with garlic wild rice, sweet corn, cherry tomatoes, carrots, soft-boiled egg, and sesame dressing. Pity that the salmon was a tad too dry, otherwise the bowl would served brilliantly as a satisfying mid-day meal.
Dessert selection includes G Bar & Grill's singnature Chendol ($6.50) with salted gula melaka ice cream, and Homemade Baked Cheese Tart ($8 for 2pcs).
We decided to go for the latter and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The warm tarts filled with soft, creamy cheese brought bouts of yummy happiness in every bite. Those addictive Spice Roasted Cashew Nuts ($6.50 per bottle) served as excellent nibbles too.
Too be honest, though we enjoyed the meal at G Bar & Grill, its location is a tad out of the way to draw us back again. But if you work or live in the area, why not make a visit soon :)
