New Menu At Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory! Available at 313@Somerset, Chinatown Point, Bedok Point, JEM, and Bugis Junction

Many a times when the craving for Korean fried chicken strikes, I don't find myself returning often to Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory even though I love their fried chicken and there's an outlet just minutes away from my office. Why? Because their serving portions are not exactly one or two person friendly, and I don't want to expand horizontally by eating more than I should.

Chir Chir seems to have heard my cries. Now, not only are there some lunch options suitable as a quick meal for individual diners, we can also order the brand's signature Crispy, Garlicky, and Spicy Fried Chicken in smaller portions of 6, 12 and 18 pieces ($9.90/$17.90/$24.90) in specific parts of tenders, or drumlets and winglets!

The restaurant has also recently-launched its revamped menu across all its outlets at 313@Somerset, Chinatown Point, Bedok Point, JEM, and Bugis Junction. I was jio-ed to try the new dishes!

Other than wefies with Song Joong Ki (okay okay poster only; I know he's married lah) while waiting for my dining companions, the highlight for me was definitely the Cheesy Dakgalbi ($32.90) which was full of fiery, addictive, and of course, melty cheese delight.

It's a wise choice for the restaurant to use only boneless chicken thigh for a convenient bite. Roasted to succulent tenderness, the chicken pieces came tossed together with topokki (Korean rice cakes) in a spicy fusion of BBQ sauce and Korean gochujang (red pepper paste). Must eat it with the mozzarella cheese to feel the full shiokness of the entire combination!

Surprisingly, the cheesy dakgalbi also went very well with the steamed Korean rice mixed with seaweed flakes, flying fish roe and sesame oil that is served with the Soy Dakgalbi ($32.90). Meant to be a one-dish meal, the rice is topped with roasted chicken thigh and a hardboiled egg, and the ingredients should be stirred together to achieve a toasty fried rice-like dish.

The Jjimdak ($19.80 half chicken / $32.90 whole chicken) or chicken stew was another well-received dish. We went for the spicy version. It was a good choice as the addition of sliced red chilies and capsaicin sauce thrilled up the sweet and savory base gravy greatly. Love the chicken chunks too which were fried in a thin crispy batter before being simmered with the sauce. Very delish!

People who cannot take the heat might want to take the non-spicy version instead.

Another new item to try would be the Curry Fried Chicken ($28.90) which were deep-fried in Chir Chir's signature crunchy batter, and then sprinkled generously with curry powder. I thought it has a very familar taste but couldn't pinpoint what it is, until someone mentioned... "Twisties?" Haha yes! The salty, addictive taste did reminded me of the childhood snack. Do dunk the chicken in the accompanying curry dip for added punch.

Despite the novelty offerings, the more classic Chir Chir Spring Chicken ($28.90) still stood out. It was simple yet well-executed, and immensely enjoyable with the sides of French fries. Each order comes with a bowl of traditional Korean naengmyeon (cold noodles), which is typically eaten after hot food to "cool down".

Well, with the revamped menu, it looks like Chir Chir is back hot on my food radar again.
