B Burgers @ Cathay Cineleisure Orchard ~ Tasty, Affordable American-Style Burgers With A Japanese Twist

From dressing gentlemen to flipping burgers, homegrown menswear label Benjamin Barker has now ventured into the world of F&B with..... B Burger!

The 62-seater burger joint occupies a prominent space on the ground floor of Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, deceptively looking like any other fast-service food outlets at initial impression.

But we soon found out that this new kid on the block holds a much more promising concept.

Taking inspiration from America's Shake Shack and In-N-Out Burger, B Burger serves classic American burgers but with an interesting Japanese twist. All their burgers are prepared a la minute with fresh-off-the grill handmade patties and warm toasty buns.

Stepping into B Burger reminds me of the time when roller skates and spandex were cool while girls just want to have fun.

Bright colors dominate the entire space with palm trees murals and neon lights juxtaposed against a wall of classic Van sneakers, skateboards and 80s band paraphernalia.

Vibes are certainly youngish, energetic and vibrant.

It took us a while to figure out the offerings on the menu board which was a tad confusing to read.

Burgers are affordably priced from $6.90 to $11.90 with beef patty, karaage chicken, as well as the meatless buttermilk fried portobello options. Add $3.50 for a side and drink.

Notable sidekicks includes the crowd-favorite Truffles Fries ($5), Curry Cheese Fries ($5) that's slathered with cheese and worth getting messy all over, and the very funky Nachos Soup ($3.50), a drinkable version of watered-down nacho cheese topped with tortilla chips.

There's no escaping from eating Chicken Wings ($7.90) when PinkyPiggu is around. B Burger's version came deep-fried and drizzled with a likeable sriracha mayo sauce. The creamy, tangy mayo helped to balance the heat from the sriracha, however the wings itself could be a little less salty.

We ordered the B Supreme ($9.90) as we wanted to taste how would B Burger fare with the rather classic combination of beef patty, sautéed mushroom and aged cheddar.

Verdict: It's good! The patty was moist without being overdone, and the addition of truffle mayo gave a subtle aromatic touch. Eating this burger is real messy with all the juices from the mushroom and melty cheese, but I ain’t complaining.

While the Curry Cheese Burger ($8.90/$11.90) got us excited with the prospect of biting into a juicy beef patty paired with aromatic beef curry and onions, we soon met with disappointment as the curry was too light without any distinct flavor and onions were too raw for our liking.

Of the three burgers that we tried, our unanimous favorite was the Bomchika Wow Wow ($9.90).

Sandwiched between the soft black buns was a generous chunk of crispy buttermilk fried chicken coupled with sriracha honey, crunchy wafu slaw, daikon pickles, fried egg, cheese and truffle mayo. The entire combination was simply enjoyable.

Though the Osaka Corn Dog ($6.90) is listed as a main alongside the burgers, I thought it suits as an accompanying snack too. Dressed in ebiko, nori, and sweetish teriyaki sauce, the smart use of these Japanese ingredients brought the typical American cheese corn dog to another level. Undisputedly a personal favorite of mine.

Milkshakes and burgers are a match made in heaven, and B Burger's milkshakes were delightful with just the right amount of sweetness. The S'Mores ($6.90) milkshake with vanilla and nutella had slightly caramelized marshmallow toppings, giving this drink a slightly toasty aroma and taste.

We actually had space for concretes too! These are premium ice cream blended with all the possible sinful toppings you can think of and more.

The signature Death By Chocolate ($6/$8) was like the name suggested, seriously overloaded with sticky, rich, dark chocolate ice cream, as well as chocolate chunks, chocolate wafers, crushed oreos and even sea salt! Sweet with a hint of bitterness and saltiness. Make sure you get a couple of friends to share this bowl of rich chocolatey sin heaven.
