O Mamma Mia Singapore Opens At Woodlands Causeway Point, The Clementi Mall & Changi City Point Serving Pastas & Pizzas!

The company which brought Llaollao into Singapore is now presenting another concept from Spain..... O Mamma Mia!

Specializing in Italian pizzas and pastas, O Mamma Mia boasts of 23 outlets across Spain and has recently ventured onto our shores. Two outlets are already launched in Woodlands Causeway Point (16 March) and The Clementi Mall (24 March). The third at Changi City Point will be opening this May.

If you're wondering whether O Mamma Mia is Spanish or Italian, it is actually a marriage of both.

Here's a bit of background on O Mamma Mia: It all started in 1972 when its Italian founder Sergio Bracci moved from Italy to Spain.

With his pizza oven and truckload of Italian products, he went on to set up pizzerias and has since been serving authentic Italian pizza in Spain for the last few decades.

The Singapore outpost aims to replicate the same authenticity. Toppings such as cheeses, Boletus mushrooms and Italian tomatoes are imported from Italy and all their sauces are handmade from scratch using fresh ingredients.

One thing that O Mamma Mia is especially particular about is its pizza dough which is made using premium bread flour, extra virgin oil and O Mamma Mia's own sourdough starter instead of off-the-shelf regular yeast commonly used in commercial pizzas.

The dough then go through a leavening, shaping and par-cooked process, before being frozen in a state-of-art blast freezer tunnel machine that eliminates the need for any added preservatives.

To ensure the same flavor and texture of the pizzas, the dough is made in Italy and brought to all its outlets in Spain, as well as Singapore.

I did enjoyed the thin, crisp texture of the pizza dough, even more so when it is warm as the staff will briefly heat up the pizza upon our order.

All pizzas are available for both takeaway and dine-in. It is sold by the slice only, each ranging from $3.50 to $4.20 (nett price).

There are 15 varieties available on rotating basis. Some flavors to expect are:

5 Terre ($4.20) - The no-meat combination of fresh Boletus mushrooms, homemade pesto sauce, tomatoes and a generous helping of parmesan and mozzarella cheese came highly recommended. It turned out to be my favorite.

O Mamma Mia ($4.20) - A medley of ham, mushrooms, egg, tomato and mozzarella.

Rucula Speck Provolone ($4.20) - Speck, a dry-cured, lightly-smoked, marbled Italian ham is the star topping on this pizza. It is accompanied by provolone, parmesan and mozzarella cheese, and fresh arugula.

Tonnara E Cipolla ($3.90) - Premium canned tuna from Italy is paired with tangy homemade tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese and onions.

Marco Polo ($3.90) - Zucchini ribbons with spicy chili flakes, garlic, whipped cream and parmesan on a mozzarella base.

5 Formaggi ($3.90) - An Italian classic with a mix of mozzarella, parmesan, gorgonzola, provolone with the fifth cheese being a special secret blend.

Pizza Nutella ($3.50) - Crisp, golden brown pizza base with a generous spread of Nutella and slices of banana. Sweet and sinfully wonderful!

The pasta dishes can be customized to our preference with choice of 5 pasta types - Tagliatelle, Strozzapreti, Gnocchi, Garganelli and Bigoli - and 5 sauces - Bolognese ($7.90), Arrabbiata ($7.90), Pesto ($8.20), 4-Cheese ($8.20) and Boletus Mushroom with Truffle Oil ($8.20).

Do take advantage of the Combo Meal available: Pizza + Drink at $5.50 or Pasta + Drink at $9.20. An additional slice of pizza is at $2.90 with any purchase of combo meal.

While I love each spoonful of the Gnocchi with 4-Cheese, I wish there are some ingredient toppings for the pastas as eating just the carbs alone got monotonous after a while. But I was told, "that's how pastas are enjoyed in Italy". Hmm... okay lor...

Though the pastas I had at The Clementi Mall branch was cooked to an enjoyable al-dente bite, it wasn't the same during my visit at Causeway Point. My bowl of tagliatelle was a tad soft in texture.

The pizzas at this branch also looked like they are left in the display counter for longer than they should, maybe due to the slower customer traffic. This was in stark contrast to Clementi where pizzas were literally flying off the shelves.

I guess one of the greatest challenges for O Mamma Mia would be to maintain the consistency of its offerings across its various outlets.
