Monga 艋舺鸡排 @ JEM ~ Famous Fried Chicken Brand By Taiwanese Celebrity "Nono" Has Landed In Singapore!

It is never a case of too much when it comes to fried chicken, though honestly, we did hesitated for quite a while before deciding to to travel all the way to far far west of Singapore for..... Monga 艋舺鸡排!

Yes, the famous Taiwanese celebrity Nono's fried chicken brand has opened at JEM Shopping Mall.

While this is Monga's first outlet on our island, the popular brand already boasts of over 45 outlets in its home country Taiwan, and has outposts in Canada, USA, UK, Philippines, and Malaysia too.

Fried chicken lovers would definitely want to check it out.

Nono was present at the grand opening to share more about the brand. The Taiwanese artiste and comedian is really quick-witted just like what we always see from his variety shows!

Monga is named after a district in Taiwan, and created by Nono and Mingdao Liu, king of Taiwan Fried Chicken. They wanted to promote the culture of Taiwan's delicacy through this renowned street snack of Taiwan.

Using only fresh and not frozen chicken, Monga's fried chicken is prepared exactly the way they do in Taiwan. Each piece of breast meat is thickly-sliced with a minimum of 2cm for a satisfying bite, and marinated with honey instead of granulated sugar as the amylase in honey helps to tenderize the meat, and also elevates the taste of the chicken fillet.

The chicken fillet is then coated in batter and double-fried to a golden crunch.

Monga's fried chicken fillet is available in three different flavours, and my favourite is The King ($6.90). Dusted with original salt and pepper, it allows the freshness and flavour of well-marinated meat to come through brilliantly.

I'm hardly a fan of chicken breast meat but was impressed by how tender and juicy this rendition at Monga was. The crust was crunchy and not greasy at all.

My friends preferred the Hot Chick ($6.90) dusted with chili paprika powder hand-made from Anahein peppers for its mildly-spicy kick.

Sad to say our group did not really enjoyed The Taiker ($6.90). While the seaweed powder imported from Okinawa is a nice touch, the fried chicken went soggy fairly quickly because of its coat of Japanese sauce.

Besides the fried chicken favourites, there are also a variety of sides for our happy indulgence including Monga Nuggets ($5.90 for 6pcs | $7.90 for 9pcs) made with chicken thigh, Signature Fries ($2.90), Seaweed Fries ($3.50), Sweet Potato Fries with Plum Powder ($3.50).

Those pieces of crispy Fried Chicken Skin ($3.90) are a must-try!

Wash it all down with Monga's refreshing tea-infused beverages including Orange Green Tea ($4.50), pink Grapefruit Green Tea ($4.50), and fragrant Osmanthus Oolong Tea ($3.30).
