Hahaha!!! Sorry if I sound too over-zealous here, but it's only because I'm still feeling extremely excited to be involved in this program as the co-host, even though the planning and filming has ended some time ago.

To be honest, it's rather horrifying to see myself on screen with all my physical flaws amplified, and my limited Chinese vocabulary displayed in all its glory, but these are not my main concerns when I was first approached by Mediacorp to participate in the new show they're preparing.

The challenge is to give a popular local delight a makeover, adding a creative twist to it. The end product has to look good, taste good, and be appealing to diners too. For instance, just like the Nasi Lemak Burger which stirred up a storm some time ago.

It's actually not difficult to come up with ideas, but as always, the difficulty lies in the execution.

That's when the expertise and experience of a professional chef is much needed, and we have... Chef Zor Tan!!!

Super stoked to have the opportunity to work together with Chef Zor. He's the former executive chef of the now-defunct 2-Michelin Star Restaurant André where I had a very memorable dining experience, and has charmingly captured numerous hearts (mine included haha) in the program Food Struck! 食不可挡 with his many droolicious dishes.

Bak Kwa or barbeque pork slices can be said to be the most popular during the Chinese New Year period, but fans who love the snack will consume it all year round. We do incorporate bak kwa into our home-cooking at times too. Now there's even a bistro - Bee Cheng Hiang Grillery - offering a menu of bak kwa dishes with a modern, fusion twist.

After a couple of rejected ideas and failed experiments, the Bak Kwa Tart was finally successfully created just in time before the foodie makeover tasting event. We were determined not to let down the first 100 diners who stood in queue waiting to try the creation, and were even tweaking the tart just hours before the event starts in order to present the tart at its very best.

Featuring a crisp, elongated tart shell holding finely-diced bak kwa with caramelized onions, and a topping of truffle mushroom, garlic mayonnaise, and delicately-shaved bak kwa slices, the Bak Kwa Tart is exquisite both in looks as well as taste.

It was sighs of relief and waves of happiness seeing that the tart is generally well-received by those who have tried it. Yay!

If you've missed the tasting event and would like to try the Bak Kwa Tart too, it's available for a limited period at Bee Cheng Hiang Grillery at $4.50++ per piece.
