Shibuya Omakasei & Sushi Bar @ Seah Street ~ Affordable Japanese Set Lunch In Heart Of Town

My quest for the Best Beef Bowl in Singapore led me to Shibuya Omakasei & Sushi Bar, a rather new Japanese joint located at Seah Street (right next to TESS Bar & Kitchen).

The premises itself is somewhat tiny, with just a sushi bar and a few alfresco tables. Not a place which I would recommend for big group or family gatherings, but if you're looking for an affordable lunch or quiet dinner option in town for 2 to 3 pax, this will suit just fine.

We met up during lunch, and at $20++ for a Aburi Sushi Mori Set, Nat (Rubbish Eat Rubbish Grow) got 6 pieces of lightly torched sushi, tuna and salmon sashimi, cold udon, salad, miso soup and fruits.

The quantity is already quite worth it considering the price. According to Nat, the food is of reasonable quality and taste. I would say it's certainly not rubbish that he's eating lol!

I kept my focus on beef bowl, and ordered the Omi Gyu Don ($50++). Omi is considered to be one of Wagyu brand that boasts top class quality, so quality and flavor of the beef were unquestionable. Its marbling was gorgeous, but we wondered at the slightly slimy mouthfeel. Perhaps the beef wasn't thawed properly before cooking? I looked out for slightly char edges and aroma, but there was none.

The sauce that accompanied the beef was a tad sweet for my liking, but suited Nat who also enjoyed the rice that has generous amount of furikake mixed in. So glad to have him finishing off the bowl for me.

After realizing that the restaurant offers discount on not one, but several online deals sites, my wallet felt the pain. No more Omi gyu don for me next time. The set lunch is a much better deal.
