Crab In Da Bag Opens New Branch At Singapore Sports Hub!

Crab in da Bag, the popular Southern Louisi-Asian (Louisiana-Asian) seafood restaurant at Big Splash (East Coast) has recently opened a second branch at Singapore Sports Hub. Yay to more of their signature Cajun-style crustacean delights with a local twist, which is inspired by the founder's travel and her mum's recipes!

For the uninitiated, this is the place to enjoy communal-style dining where the unspoken rule of the meal is... you have to use your hands to eat. So unglam, so not suitable for first dates, but but but... so fun! Haha!

It's time to put the (provided) bibs on, and get your hands and mouth ready for a messy sucking, licking, savoring good time! Ahoy!

I must say the location of Crab in da Bag's location is simply lovely. Easily accessible via Stadium mrt (CC6, exit A), it's just a few minutes walk to the Water Front Centre within the Singapore Sports Hub.

You know you've reached your destination when the scenic waterfront view of the Tanjong Rhu's skyline comes into sight, before adjourning into the nautical-themed decorated restaurant.

The concept is pretty straightforward. Choose your seafood from selections such as Venus Clams ($21), Boston Bay Mussels ($24), Tiger Prawns ($26), Cray Fish ($34), Sri Lankan Crabs ($55), and couple it with any of the sauces.

Choices include Louisiana Garlic Butter (irresistible classic, I like!), Mum's Special (homemade recipe of sauteed onion rings and garlic in a savory sweet & sour brown sauce), Salty Splash (east meet west of salted egg with Louisiana's herbs and spices), Ultimate Curry (signature Northern Malaysia curry mix with chili padi! very punchy!), and Caboodle Mix (secret combination of local and Louisiana herbs & spices, cooked with garlic & unsalted butter).

While waiting for our seafood to be ready, we sailed into a good start with some delectable nibbles. The deep-fried Crinkled Cauliflower ($8) which is simply sprinkled with salt and spices may not looked much, but was a highly addictive treat. Ooh I'm hooked!

Same goes for the Crispy Chewy Baby Squids ($12). Its sticky spicy sauce reminded me of kacap manis. Very sedap!

A new offering on the menu is the Mum's Pasta in da Bag ($16) featuring linguine sauteed in Mum's special sweet & sour brown sauce with Venus clams and Bratwurst sausages. The sauce was too starchy for my liking, but it somehow had a Hokkein mee-style appeal which had me finishing off the portion. Disposable fork is provided for this dish. Phew!

Definitely not to be missed is Crab in da Bag's much-loved item, the Caboodle Boil! Available as Titanic Pot ($299 for 4pax) and Gigantic Pot ($399 for 6pax), these generous seafood pot are great for parties and large group to share.

What we got in our Titanic Pot of indulgence: 1 Boston Lobster, 2 Sri Lankan Crabs, Alaskan King Crab Legs, Yabbies, Tiger Prawns, Boston Bay Mussels, Venus Clams, Bratwurst Sausages, Corn on the Cob, Potatoes, Onions and Lemons.

On top of all that, the Gigantic Pot gets additional Boston Lobster, Cray Fish and Loligo Squid.

Ahh... the moment of excitement as the server brought out the entire pot of sumptuous goodness and poured it all directly onto our wax-paper lined table! We just grabbed whatever we fancied and ate away!

Boiled in secret blend of Louisiana herbs and spices, the freshness, natural sweetness and succulence of the seafood only need to be accented by the accompanying dips.

I personally find the Malaysian Sambal Dip to be a tad overwhelming for the delicate taste of the meat. Louisiana Garlic Butter Dip made a much better pairing. My favorite is the full-of-spicy-shiokness Thai Green Bird Dip!

The appeal of dining at Crab in da Bag very much lies in the primitive charm of eating with our bare hands, best accompanied by good friends and loved ones around.

For once, cameras, mobile phones and social media updates have to take a backseat, while real-life conversations and food take precedence.

Oops, obviously this PinkyPiggu has flouted the rules to bring you these photos haha. I'm a food blogger, forgive me please.
