Milksha 迷客夏, The Popular Bubble Tea Brand From Taiwan Opens At Singapore's Suntec City & Funan Centre

Looks like the bubble tea hype is definitely not over yet. The game is still going strongly with another popular overseas brand joining our local market.

Let's say hello to Milksha (迷客夏), Taiwan's leading bubble tea brand that's voted number 1 by Taiwan's university students. It's opening today, right here in Singapore's Suntec City. The next outlet will open a week later at Funan Centre.

Known as "Milkshop" in Taiwan, and "Milksha" in international markets, the brand has one of the largest number of bubble tea outlets across Taiwan, and has stores in China and Hong Kong too.

Milksha prides itself on using only 100% fresh milk (not creamer) and natural ingredients such as sugar from sugarcane for its beverages.

No preservatives, chemical ingredients or artificial colouring is used.

Instead of using dried pearls, Milksha's pearls are freshly-cooked, then frozen before being air-flown directly to Singapore. The quick freeze tehnology helps to maintain the texture and taste consistency of each pearl.

You will notice that the pearls are much lighter in colour compared to other bubble tea brands as it's cooked in honey.

With a total of four series featuring Fresh Milk, Fresh Milk Tea Latte, Premium Tea, and Special Concoctions, the big question is always..... "what to order???"

We were recommended the signature drinks including Azuki Matcha Milk ($5.60), Fresh Taro Milk ($5.60), Valrhona 100% Cocoa Milk ($4.80), Refreshing Orange Green Tea ($4.20/$5), and Earl Grey Latte ($3.80/$5.10).

Toppings include Honey Pearl ($1/$1.20), Grass Jelly ($1/$1.20), and Pudding ($1/$1.20).

I find Milksha's Brown Sugar Milk ($4.60) more subtle compared to other versions, but nevertheless very enjoyable especially with those chewy honey-sweetened pearls.

My top three personal favourites are the Azuki Sesame Milk ($4.80) with the lovely nutty aroma of black sesame coupled with softness of red beans, the delicate fragrance of Roasted Wheat Tea Latte ($3.80/$5.10) that paired delightfully with smooth, slippery chunks of grass jelly, and the rich and creamy Fresh Taro Milk ($5.60) made with taro specially imported from Dajia district in Taiwan.

What makes it even more impressive is that the taro are steamed and then mashed by hand. Definitely no shortcuts by using flavourings or powders here.

In Taiwan, consumers often wait in long queues to get their cups of Milksha beverages, and I think it will be the same case for Singapore, especially during the opening period.

Be mentally prepared, bring lots of patience, and that unquenchable thirst for bubble tea!
