Mitzo Restaurant & Bar @ Grand Park Orchard ~ Lunar New Year Of Rooster 2017 Menu Highlights

Anyone else feeling the acceleration of time too? Christmas is barely over but I already found myself at Mitzo Restaurant & Bar for the beginning of lohei or prosperity toss season.

The Lunar New Year of Rooster is coming! Huat ahhh!

Located in the heart of Orchard Road, Mitzo is well-known for its vibrant decor, plush interiors as well as its progressive Cantonese cuisine.

Pearls of Prosperity Kanpachi Kingfish Yu Sheng! Fortune Pot Pen Cai! Specially-curated Reunion Set Menus!

These are just some of Mitzo's Lunar New Year offerings which we can expect from 14th January to 11th February 2017. Perfect for any joyous reunion meals

I still remember enjoying Mitzo's Pearls of Prosperity Kanpachi Kingfish Yu Sheng immensely last year.

Glad that this lovely rendition of the quintessential festive dish makes a return, completed with a savory Chu Hou sauce (a homemade concoction of soybeans garlic, ginger, sesame seeds and spices) that is shaken in a cocktail shaker before being poured over the vibrant mix of carrots, radish, crispy vermicelli, ginger, slivers of lotus root, roasted pistachio and crispy salmon skin.

This is served with Kanpachi Kingfish, one of the finest sashimi fish. The interplay of textures and flavors, as well as the burst of refreshing sweetness from the lychee "caviar" was simply delightful.

For a lighter or vegetarian option, go for the Pearls of Longevity Fruits Yu Sheng which has a healthy and refreshing combination of mango, rock melon, honeydew, pomelo and pomegranate topped with crispy enoki mushroom and slender slices of springy Konjac jelly.

One cannot missed the Pen Cai or Fortune Pot too. Staying true to tradition and laden with over 10 sumptuous ingredients, there are 3 varieties of these festive goodness to choose from at Mitzo.

Other than popular King Prawn Fortune Pot and luxurious Lobster Fortune Pot, there is also the new Grouper Fortune Pot which features a whole grouper fish over delicacies including abalone, dried scallop, flower mushroom, sea cucumber, fish maw, dried oyster, roast duck, roast pork belly, cabbage, lotus root and white radish.

Each ingredient is simmered with Mitzo's homemade broth comprising of Chu Hou sauce and baked pig broth, and each pot need a laborious 7 hours to prepare. No wonder the dish was so aromatic and flavorful!

Highlights from Mitzo's Reunion Set Menus include Tea-smoked Duck in Plum Sauce, Truffle Lobster & Prawn Noodle, as well as the luscious and comforting Fish Maw Soup with Pumpkin, Bamboo Pith & Chicken, an epitome of what an excellent Cantonese soup should taste like.

The Lobster Fried Rice with Pork Liver and Preserved Sausage surprised us with the addition of crisp rice puffs which certainly provided an interesting textural contrast to the stir-fried rice grains.

The dessert of Dual Cream of Sweet Potato is served with Golden Pineapple Bag, Mitzo's version of the must-have pineapple tart during the Lunar New Year.

As the pronunciation of nian gao sounds like "year high" in Mandarin, Chinese believe that eating the sweet glutinous rice cake symbolizes a better year ahead with higher income, higher position, higher..... you get the idea! Haha!

What better way than to round up the meal on a sweet note with Mitzo's Homemade Koi Fish Nian Gao !

May you reach to greater and greater heights in the coming Lunar New Year!
