Yoogane, The Korean Chicken Galbi Restaurant At Bugis Junction & Westgate Mall. Full Of Hearty Deliciousness!

"Yoogane? It's very popular in Korea!" exclaimed my new colleague who just moved to our little island from the land of kimchi.

Established in Busan since 1981, Yoogane is said to be one of the best Chicken Galbi restaurants in Korea with more than 130 outlets, well-known for its specialty stir-fried chicken in an unique blend of sauces and seasoning.

We do not have to look too far for an experience of that mouthwatering taste, with two local stores conveniently located at Bugis Junction and Westgate Mall.

To say that Korean food is our love can be quite an understatement. Despite wave after wave of ramyeon and budae jjigae within a short period of time, we still embraced all that Yoogane has to offer with much passion.

On the menu are their signature Chicken Galbi ($18.90 per pax), Marinated Chicken Bulgogi ($21.90 per pax), Cheese Fried Rice ($14.90 per pax), as well as a host of side dishes such as Spicy Dokboki ($9.90), Seafood Pancake ($18.90) and Japchae ($12.90).

We started with their seasonal special, Galbi Jeongol ($59.90), and boy, what an awesome start!

How should I best describe the dish? If jjigae is the unassuming girl-next-door with humble ingredients like spam and baked beans, then jeongol would be the flamboyant dancing queen with chicken galbi, mushrooms, rice cakes and an assortment of fresh vegetables.

Let's dress it up further with more Meat ($10.90), Vegetable ($8.90), Seafood ($12.90) and Ramyeon ($3.90). What a party! It's good for 3 to 4 pax, best for sharing.

I love the moist and tender chicken galbi, while my friend thought the specially-made sweet potato and mozarella-stuffed rice cakes were more carbs-worthy than the typical. The sauce was the most addictive, caressing every mouthful with a sweet-spicy taste, packing a loadful of flavors and tying the entire Galbi Jeongol dish so slurpiliciously. Yummy!

The Seafood & Chicken Galbi ($52.90 for 2-3pax / $59.90 for 3-4pax) is another elaborate medley of chicken meat, baby octopus, squids, prawns and a variety of seafood in Yoogane's signature spicy sauce.

There is also another variant with Chicken Galbi & Chukkumi Octopus ($21.90 per pax).

But for those who cannot take spicy food, the non-spicy Marinated Chicken Bulgogi ($21.90 per pax) would be a more suitable order. My preference is to have a spicy kick in my food, but the savory sweetness of the bulgogi sauce is pleasing as well.

Adding cheese to any dish makes it an immediate calorific bomb, but who cares haha! That melting creaminess makes any resistance a futile attempt.

Take for instance the Cheese Chicken Galbi ($55.90 for 2-3pax). The stretchy mozzarella provided a coat of extra oomph to the already delicious spicy chicken chunks.

The Marinated Chicken Galbi Fried Rice ($14.90) was first stir-fried with chicken galbi, kimchi and seafood, before cheese is folded in as a finishing touch. Quite delightful, though it can get a tad surfeit towards the end. My recommendation would be to eat it while it's still hot.

Naengmyeon ($11.90) is a Korean cold noodle dish which I don't usually order, but thanks to my friend who is a fan, it became my personal most surprising highlight of the meal.

The springy texture of the thin buckwheat noodles combined with chilled broth, julienned cucumber and Korean pear was utterly refreshing! We took on the server's advice of mixing in some mustard and vinegar..... oh my goodness that's when the magic happened! The taste was instantly elevated with a zesty punch! So much slurpilicious win in each bite!

My friend even commented that this has to be one of the best versions around in Singapore.

I always feel that the hearty indulgence of a Korean meal is best shared with a group of friends, and Yoogane presents itself as a most ideal joint.

Food is affordable, taste is good, service is prompt, and vibes are boisterous and casual.

And yes, bring on that soju too! Jjan!!!
