Zafferano Italian Restaurant @ Ocean Financial Centre, Raffles Place ~ Sunset Dining With Beautiful View

Let's have an early dinner while watching the sunset together!

Sounds awesome right? Especially when the venue is Zafferano, an Italian restaurant perched high on level 43 of Ocean Financial Centre. Its 270 degree panoramic view presents a captivating picture of the business district's skyscrapers and the Marina waterfront. Imagine feasting on contemporary Italian cuisine while basking in this beautiful sight set against the golden rays of the setting sun. How lovely it must be!

With that in mind, Zafferano introduces Sunset Dining, a three-course culinary experience from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, priced at $55++ per person.

But oops, our sunset bubble was burst by a cloudy overcast from an earlier afternoon rain on the day of our visit. Oh well.

Nevertheless, Zafferano's premises by itself is still uber chic and gorgeous. In addition to the main dining hall, there are also an outdoor terrace, and two private rooms.

I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant for that business luncheon, after-work drinks or corporate functions. A place to bring your date for that romantic night out? Perfect!

An open kitchen right smacked after the entrance offers us a glimpse into the preparation of our dinner by the culinary team led by Southern Italy-born Chef Marco Guccio.

His Italian roots and international working experience translates into a repertoire of modern Italian classics for Zafferno, with dishes showcasing the best of fresh produce and seasonal ingredients.

The Sunset Dining menu offers patrons a choice of starter, main course and dessert. Our advice is, if your dining partner is comfortable with sharing, just order whatever options available and share it, because choosing can be torturous when all selections seemed equally enticing.

For instance, between the starters of Marinated Trout and Baby Lobster Bisque, it can be difficult to make a decision between the two as both are delicious on their own way.

The cubes of chilled Norway trout were invigorating in a light marination of lemon, orange and fresh herbs, with quail egg and caviar rounding it up into a luscious mouthfeel.

We wouldn't want to miss the crustacean richness of the meticulously-prepared lobster bisque either.

Things got a tad heavier when it came to the mains. The Homemade Cavatelli was especially substantial, but when the pasta was well-cooked and greatly appetizing in a medley of fresh seafood with white wine sauce and tomatoes, we are certainly not complaining about the heartiness of its serving size.

The superbly-executed Beef Tagliata won this beef lover's heart effortlessly, even though sirloin is not the most preferred cut. I wouldn't mind having more of that smooth celery root puree and aromatic sauteed artichokes too.

When it comes to desserts, it was a case of the more the merrier if not for the "first-world-problem" of us being rather full from the earlier courses.

Ending the meal with on a refreshing note with freshly-made strawberry and peach Gelati was the most ideal then. Those with a sweeter tooth will appreciate the Caramello, an exquisite caramel cream dome glazed with dark caramel.

All in all, it was a good dinner at Zafferno.

Not everyone has the luxury of time to arrive early for dinner, but for a delightful Sunset Dining experience, I think it is worth some effort to make time for it.
