20F Specialty Coffeehouse @ Foch Road ~ Lovely Café At Jalan Besar Area

We cabbed our way over to 20 Foch Road in the café-populated Jalan Besar area, in search for yet another café.

Named after the address it sits on, 20F Specialty Coffeehouse sets itself to be the place for artisanal coffee and cocktails, supported by a food menu for brunch (10am-5pm), lunch (11am-5pm) and dinner (5pm onwards).

Tables were easily available when we visited on a Sunday afternoon, which was quite surprising. Hmm isn't Singapore crowded everywhere during weekends? Good for us but bad for business I guess.

20F's premises is considered to be rather spacious, cleverly divided into 3 sections with each having its unique charm.

The first upon entrance is where the coffee and ordering counter is. Walk further in to find a quaint area with ambience lighting (bad for photos though), before leading to an enclosed but seemingly alfresco area where a sunroof allows in plenty of natural daylight.

Other than the vintage mosaic floor tiles, the café displayed no remnant of the 60-year-old Chinese medical hall it was before.

My foodsteps auto-directed gluttonous me to the ordering counter even before deciding on what to order, drawn by the display of baked goodies at one corner! What an enticing spread of sweet and savory treats such as Banana Walnut Muffin ($2.80), Choc Seasalt Tart ($4.50) and Lemon Curd Tart ($4.50).

We decided on a 2-Berry Muffin ($2.80), with cups of Latte ($5) brewed with beans from Liberty Coffee starting us off on an invigorating note.

It took us a while to ponder over the menu, which has a good selection of substantial choices like Smashed Avo On Toast ($14), Ribeye Burger ($24), and Prawn & Poached Egg Pasta ($17), before picking Pulled Pork Benedict ($18) to satisfy our hunger.

The brunch item was competently executed, with tasty pulled pork and runny yolks bursting from the poached eggs which was blanketed by an appetizing chipotle hollandaise sauce.

20F's Duck & Waffle ($22) featuring a duck confit on buttermilk waffle with strawberry compote and mixed berries sorbet has been garnering numerous positive reviews, but we gave it a skip as I didn't want it to be a case of waffle overdose in one setting.

What we had was the Espresso Kahlua Waffle ($12), a decadent party of dark chocolate sorbet and vanilla bean ice cream over buttermilk waffle. The waffle's outer was nicely crisp, though I would prefer it to be a little less dense inside for a fluffier bite. The espresso kahlua sauce added an interesting touch.

Thumbs up to the friendly service staff who were patient in answering my queries and getting my orders taken. One even helped me to do the waffle pouring shot as my friend bochap me was busy playing with the handphone lol!

I would say 20F Specialty Coffeehouse is one of the better cafés I've been to these last couple of weeks, and will probably visit again to try their signature duck confit waffle if I'm in the vicinity.
