Tokyo Pasta Mario ~ Affordable Japanese Pasta in a Foodcourt!

Just had a good, satisfying lunch today!

After a disappointing lunch of pasta at an Italian place yesterday, I was tempted to have pasta again when I passed by Tokyo Pasta Mario, a Japanese pasta stall located in Food Republic at 313@Somerset. Infusing Japanese flavor into Italian pasta is nothing new, with restaurants like Pasta De Waraku and Yomenya Goemon already specializing in this.

But the main draw factor here, is the price. With prices starting from only S$5.80 nett, and going up to S$9.80 nett, you can choose from 3-5 selection of pasta from each of the 4 main categories: Tomato Sauce, Japanese style, Miso Cream Sauce & Mentaiko Sauce.

And my order was

Japanese Style Spaghetti with Prawns & Scallops, Spinach, Urchin Souse Paste, Crab Stick topping! (S$9.80nett)

The recommended dish of the menu!

Simply presented in a cheery combination of colors, the delicate taste of butter and light cream sauce of this pasta suits my palate very well! It is not too heavy and the spaghetti is done perfectly al-dente. The prawns, baby scallops and crab sticks were acceptably fresh. Seaweed lifted the overall taste. I was worried initially that this might not be filling enough for me as the serving size looks rather small, but it turns out to be just nice.

Even though Tokyo Pasta Mario is located within a food court, there is a seating section allocated specially for the stall’s patrons. Do get a seat by the window which overlooks the streets of Orchard Road. It’s a nice place for Japanese pasta at wallet-friendly prices.
