Cherry Garden @ Mandarin Oriental Presents Luxurious Pen Cai In "Basin" For CNY 2019

Cherry Garden at Mandarin Oriental is best known for their Cantonese cuisine presented with artistic modern flair.

To usher in the Year of the Earth Pig, Executive Chinese Chef Cheng Hon Chau has crafted a tantalising array of epicurean delights which will be available for both dining-in and takeaways from 18th January to 19th February 2019.

The dish that grabbed all our attention is the Luxurious Pen Cai. It is said to be Singapore's largest 'basin dish'!

Filled with premium ingredients such as Braised Four-head Abalone, Lobster, Scallop, King Prawn, Sea Cucumber, Dried Oyster Roll, Conpoy, Dace Fillet, Black Moss, Chinese Mushroom, Tientsin Cabbage, Yam, Roasted Pork Belly, Roasted Duck, and Chicken, the treasure pot of goodness was both a visual and luxurious treat.

Instead of being covered in a usual thick braising gravy, Cherry Garden's rendition of pen cai is filled with soupy superior broth. We're divided over this, as some of us prefer the dish in the way which we're more accustomed to. Nevertheless, the pen cai was delicious in its own way.

Besides the pen cai, yu sheng is another quintessential Lunar New Year dish.

Cherry Garden presents several options with different toppings including the Garden of Health Yu Sheng with Fresh Fruits & Vegetables, and Bountiful Yu Sheng with Alaskan Crab Meat, Salmon, Black Truffle & Black Caviar.

This tradition is served with julienned rosella fruit and velvety spring onion sauce unique to Cherry Garden.

Other menu highlights include slow-cooked Beef Brisket Stew with Tendon & Turnip, and Braised Pig's Trotter with 6-head Abalone & Black Moss.

Braised Ee-fu Noodles with Cordyceps is the simple yet perfect end to the savory courses.

There's always space for desserts though as we indulged in the utterly refreshing Chilled Aloe Vera Jelly with Lemongrass & Dried Rose Petals.

If you're looking at getting some Spring Festive Goodies to enjoy at home or give away to friends and relatives, Red Dates Nian Gao would be a ideal choice.

We enjoyed our nian gao simply deep-fried in batter. Warm, soft, with the pronounced flavor of red dates without being too sweet, the glutinous rice cake is certainly a must-have this Lunar New Year season.

Cherry Garden's Lunar New Year Menu is available from 18th January to 19th February 2019, priced from $128++ per person onwards.
