The Affogato Bar @ Bukit Timah Road ~ A Café Specializing In Affogato And Coffee
Screaming out for a dose of affogato to combat this sweltering weather! Who is with me too?
"Affogato", meaning "to drown" in Italian, typically features ice cream drowned with a shot of espresso.
Cooling, invigorating, definitely a perk-me-up for both ice cream and coffee lovers. There is nothing quite like this Italian dessert. While affogato has a place in most beverage and dessert menus in Singapore, the spotlight did not really fall on it.
That is, until The Affogato Bar became the game-changer by dressing it up as the main star.
Opened in Cluny Court along Bukit Timah Road (nearest mrt station: Botanic Gardens CC19/DT9) a few weeks ago, The Affogato Bar's affogato offerings are served with different homemade ice cream flavors, double shot of espresso brewed from Dimattina coffee blends, and various toppings.
Expect creations like the recommended signature Death by Chocolate ($13.90) comprising of chocolate sorbet, brownie chunks, chocolate streusels, chocolate top hat, and topped with Grande Tazza, as well as Carota Carota ($13.90) with carrot cake ice cream, carrot cake, chopped walnuts, homemade cream cheese, and topped with Mocharoma.
Fancy? Yes!
Instagram-worthy? Definitely!
Our choice of Banana Ramble ($12.90) came looking as pretty, and tasted as good as we imagined it to be.
Anchored by butter pecan ice cream, and oomphed with banana cake, fresh banana slices, and pecans, it was a delightful interplay of soft, smooth and crunchy textures.
Pour the double shot of mocharoma over, the affogato is completed with the espresso's slightly bitter notes, floral aroma, and fruity flavors.
Having this well-balanced concoction was truly an enjoyment.
Coffee aficionados will also appreciate the premium coffee blend by Dimattina Coffee, an award-winning roaster from Melbourne, Australia.
For a more substantial bite, there is the selection of Fresh Bagels ($2.90 to $4.90). Do check out the weekday breakfast deal (Mondays to Fridays, 8am to 11am) where you get a complimentary cup of hot coffee with any order of bagel sandwich: Roast Beef ($14.50), Breakfast Club ($12.50), Egg & Onion ($10.50).
What a nice addition to the local café scene. The Affogato Bar is well-worth a visit!
