Wheeler's Estate @ Seletar Aerospace Park ~ Another Instagrammable Café By Folks Behind Wheeler's Yard

Perhaps it is the everyday hustle bustle of working and living in the city that makes me yearn for some respite from the concrete jungle, so off we went to the rather ulu (remote) Wheeler's Estate at Seletar Aerospace Park.

Ahhh... A café nestled in a former British military airbase-turned heritage building surrounded by lots of greenery. I like!

It seems that the folks behind Wheeler's Estate has a pretty good knack for creating instagrammable spaces. They are also the ones who brought us Wheeler's Yard, the bicycle-themed café set in an industrial warehouse at Balestier. Who doesn't know about its iconic, striking-blue vintage door, the backdrop to numerous #OOTD shots?

On that note, Wheeler's Estate has already proven itself to be an #OOTD shots darling. Even my friends who don't usually like their photos to be taken, took quite a couple during their visits. Lol!

I guess the rustic allure of its premises is too charming to resist. The two-storey black and white colonial building houses an alfresco café on the ground level, and an air-conditioned restaurant upstairs.

There is also the grill house, as well as a lawn area where you can borrow a mat to have a picnic.

Depending on the day and hour, menu offerings vary from breakfast items like Farm Hen Eggs ($14) - poached, fried or scrambled served on ciabatta and Feed Me Breakfast ($26) - eggs, bacon, sausage, roasted mushroom, tomato, spinach, potato rosti and bulldog sauce, to light starters such as Spiced Wedges ($15), Grilled Octopus ($22), Crisp Squid ($20) and BBQ Naked King Prawns ($24).

For more substantial mains which are designed to feed 2 people, options include Tequila & Lime Pork Spare Ribs ($50), Chicken in Peruvian BBQ Style ($36), Beef Short Ribs ($65) and T-Bone Steak ($99).

We noted that quite a few tables ordered The Fish & Chip Shop ($28) that is beautifully presented in a boat-like wooden platter. Looks good! We also want!

Though its price is a little more than what we're willing to pay for, the beer-battered fillet was still worth the order with its well-executed light, crisp exterior and fresh-tasting fish. Portion was thankfully generous.

The Cheeky Swine ($25) came garnished with berries and edible flowers which also served to provide some refreshing balance to the meatiness of the tender bourbon and cider braised pork cheeks.

Wild Mushroom Risotto ($23) and Linguine Sorrento ($23) with prawn and crab are the only two pasta options. We went for the latter which pleased with its al denta bite and appetite-whetting tomato-based sauce.

Desserts seem to be an afterthought with only Chocolate Ganache Tart ($15) and selection of Daily Desserts and Cakes ($15) available. Well, at least effort was put in to plate it nicely. Gonna give them some brownie points for this.

Full points for the attentive and efficient service rendered by the friendly staff.

Wheeler's Estate is indeed an ideal place to spend an afternoon relaxing over decent food and drinks. You just need to grab some great company along.

Its location at Seletar Aerospace Park is actually not as ulu as it sounds. This north-eastern part of Singapore is accessible by train (nearest mrt station: Punggol NE17) and bus services (103 and 117). Of course, we can always depend on our Comfort, Grab and Uber drivers, or GPS (if you're driving).

Besides Wheeler's Estate, other F&B establishments in the area includes The Summerhouse, Wildseed Café by The Summerhouse, Youngs Bar & Restaurant, and Di Wei Teochew Restaurant.

This could very well be the next best laidback destination to hang out after Dempsey Hills.
