Mo'mor Izakaya By W.Martin @ Tanglin Post Office ~ Check Out This Restaurant For Affordable Japanese-European Grub!

There is a better reason to make a trip to Tanglin Post Office these days. Not for running errands of course, but to check out the building's latest tenant, Mo'mor Izakaya!

Rather than being a typical Japanese drinking joint, Mo'mor is more of a contemporary izakaya concept with Japanese-European inspired elements as evidently shown in both its food and premises.

Embrace the inviting alfresco area for under-the-stars dining with much passion, or seek air-conditioned comfort within the modern and minimalist interior. Either way, both sets as a cozy backdrop to enjoy delectable tapas and grills at affordable prices. Set Lunch is at only $15++ or $18++ for 2 or 3-courses!

The man at the helm is none other than veteran Chef Martin Woo, who has over 30 years of experience in the industry. You would perhaps find him familiar for his regular appearances on local food-related programmes.

Mo'mor prides itself on using premium-grade and freshest ingredients mostly procured from Swiss Butchery (one of Singapore's pioneering premium butchers) to create its dishes.

The menu looks set to woo diners with signatures such as Charcoal Grilled Whole Japanese Squid ($19), Australian Wagyu on Skewer ($22), Apple Cured Salmon Sashimi ($16), Hokkaido Scallop Tartare ($22), Plum Tomato Ceviche ($12), Pan-roasted Chilean Seabass ($34), Slow-cook Charcoal-grilled Ibericaqo Pork Collar ($30), Matsusaka Wagyu Striploin ($9 per 10gram), Australian Grass-fed Prime Rib MB+3 ($12 per 100gram) and Rock Lobster ($11 per 100gram).

I wish I can try it all but our tummies were not so ambitious lol! Nevertheless, we had a good tasting of several items from both the tapas and main selection, starting with an immensely addictive bowl of sea-salted Edamame Beans ($6).

Though I'm not a fan of raw food (oops do I sound like a broken recorder haha), the huge Botan Ebi Prawn ($28) impressed deeply with plump and firm flesh that doesn't even need the accompanying soy dip or any other sauce for that matter to accentuate its freshness and sweetness.

Oysters ($5.50 per pc, minimum 3pcs) were very much a delight as well. Instead of the usual squeeze of lemon, it is paired with citrus jelly that provided the same zesty touch, but notched up textural-wise.

Another interesting combination that worked well was the Swordfish Belly ($15) with pieces of grapefruit, crisp garlic bites and ponzu sauce.

The Hokkaido Scallops ($22) were also very enjoyable. Just nicely done and topped with ikura for added flavor.

Nothing will take away the happiness of deep-fried indulgence, especially when the Soft Shell Crab ($12) is executed to a lovely crispiness and dipped in tempura sauce with grated sesame.

My dining companion's aversion to Japanese eel was my gain as I polished off the entire serving of kabayaki-glazed Unagi ($22). Thank me very much, no problem at all haha!

The tapas certainly outdone the mains this time as what we tried were generally not as well-received. There was something left wanting in each dish.

For instance, the Saikyo Miso Ginger Spring Chicken ($22) has a mushy bite to its meat which we didn't like, and the Cod Fish ($34) lacked the expected moist smoothness. Though the Black Angus Ribeye ($38) looked tantalizing in its pinkish center and well-charred outer, it was somehow a tad dry and chewy for my liking. But still can eat lah.

What stole the limelight was the side item, Hasselback Potato ($9). Soft, buttery, creamy deliciousness basking in a shade of golden brown, it was everything we wanted in a good baked potato. Heck the carbs or whatever calories! Just load it with sour cream and whack it!

Cameras Get ready for the mini bottle of Melon Gazpacho ($12) that is to be poured over berries salsa and raspberry sorbet haha! The kind of ideal dessert to end dinner on a light and refreshing note.

Hits and misses for the grub, but generally I like the vibes at Mo'mor. Will be back to try the value set lunches!
