Laurent's Café By Laurent Bernard Chocolatier @ Robinsons Orchard ~ Love Its Dark, Cosy, Relaxing Vibes

Laurent Bernard Chocolatier is no newcomer to the café scene, having been around in Singapore since 2006 with several outlets and boutiques in Robertson Quay, Portsdown, Takashimaya and Hitachi Tower.

The latest branch to open is at the basement of Hereen Orchard where Robinson department store is housed, right next to Gyoza-ya.

Enjoying that well-loved dark chocolate souffle or French pastries in a cosy café setting is now more convenient than ever.

I must emphasize the word "cosy" again, for that is one of the main reasons which brought me on return visits to Laurent's Café.

The dark, quiet ambience was utmost relaxing and serves as a brilliant pit-stop in between appointments and shopping around town.

Like icing on top of the cake, promotions like Tea Break Special (Mon-Fri 2pm-6pm) are irresistibly enticing. Get any Cake ($9.40 onwards) of your choice with cup of Coffee/Tea ($5.50 onwards) for only $12!

Best known for their gourmet chocolate, of course we expected no less than a good selection of chocolate confectionery at Laurent's Café.

Just to name a few: Chocolate Tart ($9.40), Truffle Cake (chocolate & raspberry filling, $9.40), Equator (chocolate ganache & biscuit, $9.40), Black Forest (dark chocolate mousse with cremeux Kirch & cherries, $11.10), Trianon (chocolate cream with hazelnut biscuit, $11.10).

I can imagine my chocolate-loving friends getting excited already.

The Chocolate Delight ($9.40) lived up to its name with rich hazelnut dacquoise sponge and dark chocolate mousse wrapped within a dark chocolate outer. So delightful!

On occasions where a lighter bite is prefer, there are the likes of refreshing Lemon Tart ($9.40) and Ruby ($11.10) with fruity notes of strawberry.

Laurent's menu also offers hearty mains including Burgundy Beef Stew ($22), Coq Au Vin ($23), Duck Leg Confit ($26), as well as Pastas, Sandwiches, Salads and Soups. Brunch is served until 6pm daily.

I love everything that was on my plate of Farmers Breakfast ($23). The organic eggs were scrambled to a nice creamy consistency and potatoes were well-roasted. Baked bacon, sautéed mushrooms and toasted bread completed the substantial treat.

The Spicy Spaghetti Aglio Olio ($18) was decidedly satisfying with juicy prawns and well-cooked pasta. Taste wise, it could do with a bit more spiciness, but then again, I'm "chili padi trained" and the greater public might not be able to take more heat. Love those generous cloves of roasted garlic.

Happy to have this non-crowded café in town to escape to, when I need to.
