The Fickle Mussel @ Goldhill Shopping Centre ~ Café Serving Mussels & More, At Affordable Prices.

The Fickle Mussel
is a recent opening at Goldhill Shopping Centre (along the same row as Udders), serving up simple French dishes, Western grub, as well as their specialty mussels.

Not quite a fancy hangout place, but if you're looking for an affordable meal in a relatively comfortable environment, this will suffice. Mains are priced under $20, and Weekday Lunch Set (1 main + 1 soft drink) is only at $10nett.

To let you have a sense of what's on the menu: French Onion Soup ($10.90), Escargot ($9.90), Poulet Rotisserie ($12.90), Foie Gras Burger ($18.90), Fish & Chips ($12.90), Grilled Sirloin Steak ($18.90).

Mussels come in four variants, namely Thyme Leek Cream Mussels ($12.90), Marinara Mussels ($12.90), Garlic Butter Mussels ($12.90) and Laksa Mussels ($12.90).

Laksa mussels? How would it taste like? The laksa gravy was much more creamier than usual, lacking the distinct robustness or spicy kick. Though mussels were adequately fresh, we were underwhelmed by the overall experience.

My friend was disappointed that the Foie Gras Salad ($12.90) is served on a long plate, rather than in a bowl. The minuscule amount of greens seemed to be an afterthought. Foie gras was a tad overcooked, but still okay.

The food we've tried at The Fickle Mussel were not of best quality, but still acceptable. They probably need to fine tune the recipes and execution further. I wouldn't mind going back to try their other dishes if I happened to be in the area, but wouldn't make a deliberate detour for it.
