{Sentimental Sundays} Farewells... What Does It Mean To You?

Goodbye, Au Revoir, Sayonara... Farewells... what does it mean to you?

Over my years with my current company, I've seen more than enough of farewell gatherings for colleagues who have decided (or have been decided) to leave their positions. Be it a push factor or a pull factor, there's always a tinge of sadness whenever news is announced that another person is leaving, no matter the level of closeness which we had shared as co-workers. Afterall, these are people whom I see 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, week after week.

Steamed Egg Tofu with Assorted Mushrooms ~ Recipe Included!

The engulfing haze which enveloped the whole of Singapore was really bad last week with the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) topping 401 at 12pm on Friday, June 21. The hazardous air pollution induced a mild asthma attack in me as I morning commuted to the office, feeling increasingly unwell. After a visit to the doctor and contemplating if I shall stay in the enclosed office and work, or risk going home amid the choking haze without a N95 mask, I finally went home in the afternoon when the PSI level started to drop, but not without a stop at the supermarket near my house first.

{Sentimental Sundays} Blessed Father's Day, My Abba!

The third Sunday of every June is Father's Day, a day to pay tribute to all the wonderful fathers out there. I do not know the love of my own father, so the occasion is never celebrated in my family. Feelings of happiness were finally felt, only when he decided to walk out on us for good one day. But still, I wish very much that I have a father whom I can call 'daddy'.

The Yumminess of Pumpkin Cake with Salted Egg Yolk ~ Recipes Included!

Pumpkin, my friend described it as the Powerhouse of Vital Nutrients! Rich in antioxidants, vitamin and minerals but low in fat and calories, the vibrant orange-hue melon is also an excellent source of fiber, which is essential for healthy digestion. What I adore most, is its natural sweetness! It led me to cook creamy pumpkin soup and pumpkin rice previously which earned good reviews from my friends. Yummy just by thinking about it! Pumpkin is definitely more than just a Halloween decoration lol.

Spicy Thai-Thai Cafe ~ A Taste of Authentic Thailand in The Heart of Aljunied

Thai eateries are aplenty in Singapore, what makes one stands out from the rest? A taste of authenticity reminiscent of Thailand would be it.

Spicy Thai-Thai Cafe prides itself for bringing Thai food in its most real and authentic way to us right here in Singapore, at Blk 115 Aljunied Ave 2, to be precise. From using charcoal for soup and steamed dishes to maintain heat consistency and quality, to importing teas leaves from Thailand for the signature Thai Iced Tea (S1.50), no efforts is spared. Mr Ron Poh, founder and owner of Spicy Thai-Thai Cafe feels that the extra hard work is worth it so that his customers can enjoy Thai food the authentic way.

#omySBA2013 ~ Panasonic Cooking Workshop @ Onaka Restaurant & Wine Bar

Encouraged. Inspired. Motivated.

PinkyPiggu is one of the top 10 finalists for the Singapore Blog Awards 2013 ~ Best Cooking Blog category! Yay! I felt very encouraged to continue sharing more of my cooking experiments and recipes through this humble blog. Together with all the other finalists, we attended a cooking workshop organized by OMY and Panasonic at Onaka Restaurant & Wine Bar last weekend, where Chef Jason and Chef Benson demonstrated to us how effortless it can be to whip up some delicious dishes in our home kitchen with the help of modern technology. I was greatly inspired after the session with lots of recipe ideas running though my head. Seeing how cooking method can be simplified and made less time consuming with the use of Panasonic kitchen appliances actually motivated me to cook more often!  Yay to time saving! Cannot always say "no time, no time" already. :p

Singapore Blog Awards 2013 ~ Finalist for Best Cooking Blog

PinkyPiggu is in the finals for the Singapore Blog Awards 2013 ~ Best Cooking Blog!

"Organised by omy.sg, the Singapore Blog Awards honour tireless "new age wordsmith" who devote much time and energy in maintaining informative, regularly updated and innovative blogs, often out of interest rather than for personal gains." (source: Singapore Blog Awards Facebook Page)

I was very very surprised when I was notified that I'm one of the top 10 finalists for the best cooking blog category. Not just considering that I had started blogging only a few months ago, but also the fact that this is a food blog where I share mostly my dining experiences, and cooking experiments made up only about 10% of my blog content. Too busy eating, not much time for cooking lol.

Famous Lim Seng Lee Duck Rice @ South Buona Vista Road

Yes, I'm one of those who went to eat the famous Lim Seng Lee Duck Rice before it closes for good on June 20, 2013.

When news first broke that Lim Seng Lee Duck Rice Eating House at South Buona Vista Road is closing shop after 45 years in business, my first thought was, could this be the duck rice which I had loved so many years back? The answer is unfortunately, yes. Situated at the end of the long and winding road which is commonly known to many as "ninety-nine turns" (say "九十九弯" in Hokkein), it was the eating place to be at whenever my friends and I craved for a simple meal of Teochew Boneless Braised Duck Rice. We affectionately called it the 九十弯鸭饭. How many of you remember it by this name too? Hands up!
