Azmaya 東屋 @ Robertson Quay ~ Wagyu! Shabu Shabu! Teppanyaki! Snowdome!

Irrashaimase! いらっしゃいませ!

Welcome to Azmaya 東屋, the newly opened authentic Japanese Shabu Shabu restaurant at Robertson Quay!

Located right next to Bella Pizza and facing the riverfront, Azmaya wasn't hard to find when my friends and I were there on the opening night 2 days ago. We spotted the rows of congratulatory flower stands from afar and quickly made our way over to check out this new eatery.

Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery ~ Traditional Handmade Goodness!

In this advanced world where technology reigns and machines gradually take over what humans can do, Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery holds dear to artisan traditions and retains an element that is mostly lacking nowadays ~ The human touch. Since the 1960s, they have been churning out traditional nonya snacks, all labouriously made by hand!

COMMUNAL @ North Canal Road ~ Something New, Something American!

The newly opened COMMUNAL along North Canal Road brings to us an American diner experience right in the heart of our Singapore central business district. Mention American food, one would easily conjure up images of burgers, sandwiches, mac and cheese, fried chicken. Communal serves up all these, and much more!

With its location just a stone's throw away from the neighbouring UOB Tower and OCBC Centre, it was quite of a surprise when Charleen and I found that it wasn't crowded when we visited for lunch on a weekday. I was expecting us to brave the infamous Raffles Place office crowd. Perhaps they have yet to discover the value set lunch which comes with a choice of sandwich + soup/salad + ice tea/lemonade for only $15.

品珍私房菜 Yummy Recipes ~ A Yummy Makan Night

It's rather interesting for me to see where the makansutra dinner will bring me month after month. This time round, all 120 of us gathered at 品珍私房菜 Yummy Recipes. Situated at the Crescent @ Kallang building, the industrial estate of Macpherson is not an area I would have in mind when thinking of a dinner place for food outings. Which made me all more the glad that the makansutra dinners brings me to restaurants which I normally will not patronize or discover due to the location. Kudos to Andrew and Tony for their unrelenting search for good makan places and organising the dinners every month!

Chicken Wings Galore! @ 泡泡满庭香 Mun Ting Xiang Tea Hut, Toa Payoh ERA Centre

I can't recall how it started...

I don't remember when it started...

I only know... I love CHICKEN WINGS!

I can't recall how my love for chicken wings started. Maybe I was too young to remember. Yes, it started young. I remember when I was in primary school and whenever there's a class potluck party, the teacher would ask: "who wants to bring chicken wings?", my hands will just shoot up. Maybe I heard only the words "chicken wings", and got too excited. Anyway, I was tasked to bring the chicken wings of course. When I went home and told my mum, she will say: "Huh? Why must you bring chicken wings again? Cannot bring something cheaper like agar agar (jelly) meh?". You see, I grew up in a money-challenged environment. Chicken wings was something beyond our budget to contribute. It's not apparent to me back then what it took for mum to prepare those chicken wings for me to bring to school. But it's very apparent that mum loves me.

Street 50 @ Bay Hotel

Street 50 got its name because it's located at 50 Telok Blangah Road, right opposite Vivocity. And no, the restaurant and bar doesn't serve local street food, but a wide variety of global flavors ranging from Italian, French and American to Vietnamese, Indonesian and Singaporean. Understandably so, as it is situated within Bay Hotel. With such a diversified menu, there will be something to suit every traveler or staycationer.

Street 50 also offers a very affordable 3-course set lunch ($18++ or $25++), which will probably appeal to the working crowd in the area looking for a good value lunch deal or quiet environment for some business discussion.

PepeNero ~ Simply Italian

My love for Italian food brought me to PepeNero one evening.

Situated at Stanley Street which is just a 10 minute walk from Tanjong Pagar mrt, it was very easy to locate. For someone like me who doesn't drive, easy accessibility is very important. Many a times I had wanted to visit a place but the ulu-ness of it held me back. Not all friends drive. Taxis may not be available when I want it. I should get a driving licence soon. Ahh I digressed!
