Craft Bakery & Café ~ A New Place To Chillax At Holland Village

Holland Village is becoming one of my favorite places to chillax on Sunday afternoons. One - Not only does the area has a good mix of restaurants, cafes and local delights, Two - It's very accessible via the circle line, just a stop away from where I attend church every week. I was quite keen to check out Craft Bakery & Café which opened its doors just 3 weeks ago, that I did not take up my friend’s suggestion of ramen (when the usual easy-going me would). The main reason why? Hehee, my mouth was itching for some molten chocolate cake by 3-Inch-Sin, who are the folks behind this new kid on the block.

I was not disappointed by the rich molten chocolatey goodness, and not surprised by the available flavors of Original, Hazelnut, Peanut Butter, Caramelized Banana, Mint and Baileys ($9.50/add $1 for Baileys). Afterall, 3-Inch-Sin is known for having the widest selection of molten cakes in Singapore, naughty-ing up the sinfulness with teases on flavors and textures. With so many options, it's really up to us if we have the openness to try it all, before committing to one favorite flavor. Just like life.

Of course, Craft is more than just about molten chocolate cakes and signature desserts. No surprises though, expect savory choices of salad, soups, sandwiches, pasta and mains such as Shephard's Pie ($13.50) and Bangers & Mash ($17), the usual grub you would find at a café. Our pick of Prawn Aglio Olio ($18) and Bacon Mac n' Cheese ($12.50) tasted pedestrian, but there is comfort in simplicity, safety in the ordinary. I already had my fair share of weird experiences recently, and they do not have to manifest again in my food.

I do wish their chef's recommendations can be highlighted on the menu. It took us quite awhile to look through the sandwiches list before finally deciding on Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese ($15.50), when I realized later that The Craft ($11.50), with maple-candied bacon and green apple slaw on waffle grids, sounded more interesting and looked a lot more photogenic. Oh well...

Having a meal or coffee here is very affordable, with no item priced over $18. I do not see any GST or service charge on my bill, which makes it another plus point. In celebration of their opening, Craft is currently having a 1-for-1 lunch promotion on all mains and sandwiches (Mon-Fri, 12-2pm)! No need to even do the maths, you know you've just read about a good deal here. Just go go go! :D
